Technical Questions
Following are some of the technical questions that are commonly asked about PowerMail. Don't forget to also check out the manual for detailed information about PowerMail.

How can I import messages from Claris Emailer version 2 or Microsoft Outlook Express version 4.x for Mac OS ?

The only Emailer or Outlook Express database access provided to third-party developers is via AppleScript. This method requires a little patience but works well. You need to install Richard Shapiro's Import/Export scripts found here for Emailer or here for Outlook Express.

Once installed, you can apply either one of these scripts to each of your Emailer or Outlook folder; choose the Eudora format for exporting these messages; place all of these files in a single Finder folder and import all of them in one go using PowerMail.

Tip: in order to reduce the number of times you need to run this script, try to move messages around in Emailer or Outlook Express to a smaller number of folders before exporting.

How can I import address book data from Claris Emailer version 2 into PowerMail ?

PowerMail can import address book files exported as text from within Emailer 2. You can even drag a selection of Emailer entries and drop them on the PowerMail address book window directly !

How can I bring address books from Netscape Communicator or Eudora (any version) into PowerMail ?

There is a website which will process and convert Communicator-formatted address book files to Tabulated format suitable for importing into PowerMail. Click here to jump to this site.

Can I use another spell-checking program with PowerMail ?

SpellTools from Newer Technology is one example of spell checking package that can be used in conjunction with PowerMail. It can be downloaded from here.

Can I access LDAP directories with PowerMail ?

Using a nifty add-on application named LDapper by Carl Bell at Baylor University, you can search LDAP servers and drag-and-drop found addresses to the PowerMail address book or recipients pane. LDapper can be found here.

Where can I find out more about attachment encoding formats ?

MacUser wrote about encoding attachments in their February 97 issue. Read it here.
